Suspect arrested after bear spray altercation with police

A London man faces a list of charges after he allegedly discharged bear spray at officers while being confronted about a stolen vehicle.

The incident happened at around 9 p.m. Saturday, according to London police. Officers were in the area of Dundas and Adelaide streets when they located a man getting out of a vehicle that had previously been reported stolen.

Police observed the suspect enter a residential building and began to pursue him. The man took off from the building when officers approached him and returned to the stolen vehicle.

A brief scuffle ensued between the man and the officers, at which time bear spray was released by the accused, police allege. No serious injuries were reported.

The suspect was eventually subdued and taken into custody. A search of the man turned up a flare gun.

A 25-year-old London man has been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, possession of property over $5,000, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, and handling a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition.

The accused appeared in court on Monday.
