Why local ownership still matters in Sarnia

In a community like Sarnia, local businesses are more than just places to shop. They're part of the fabric of everyday life.

They sponsor local teams, support community events, and build relationships that go beyond transactions. It’s that sense of connection that continues to matter, especially as more industries shift toward larger and less personal models.

That’s the thinking behind a new chapter at Sarnia Ford Lincoln, now locally owned and operated here in Lambton County by Progressive Auto Group.

For Dan and John Whitton, the opportunity wasn’t just about adding a new dealership to the fold, it was about investing in a community they already call home.

“We live here, our families are here, and this community matters to us,” said Dan Whitton, one of the owners. “For us, this is about being part of something long-term and doing things the right way.”

That approach starts with people.

Customers visiting Sarnia Ford Lincoln will still see familiar faces and a lot of the same team they’ve come to know over the years. Maintaining that continuity was a priority from day one.

“There’s a strong foundation here already,” says John Whitton, co-owner of Progressive Auto Group. “Our goal is to support that team and continue building on it.”

While customers will continue to recognize the familiar faces and commitment to service, local ownership brings a renewed focus on supporting the Sarnia community and building lasting relationships with the people who live here. From local events and sponsorships to everyday customer interactions, the goal is to create a dealership experience that feels truly connected to the community it serves.

That mindset will be on display on June 13, 2026, as Sarnia Ford Lincoln invites the community to stop by for a casual, family-friendly BBQ.

The event is open to everyone and is designed as a simple way to connect - no presentations, no pressure, just an opportunity to meet the team, enjoy some food, and spend time together.

“We just want people to feel comfortable stopping in,” they say. “Whether you’re in the market for a vehicle or not, you’re always welcome here.”

In many ways, it’s a reflection of what local ownership is all about: showing up, building relationships, and creating a place people feel good about visiting.

As Sarnia Ford Lincoln moves forward under the Progressive Auto Group, that commitment remains at the centre of everything they do.

The Community BBQ takes place Saturday June 13 from 11am to 2pm at Sarnia Ford Lincoln, 101 Indian Road South, Sarnia ON N7T 3W1. Everyone is welcome.
