Sarnia streets will be filled with ghosts, ghouls and goblins for Halloween and the Sarnia Police Service is reminding everyone to be safe.
Police Chief Derek Davis said drivers need to be extra diligent.
"[This] is in regards to maintaining low speeds and being vigilant for the little ones as they're darting out and excited to be trick-or-treating," he said. "We just need to be extra cautious and make sure everyone's Halloween is a safe one."
Trick-or-treaters are reminded to keep themselves seen while going door-to-door.
Davis said children should have reflective material on their clothing, or carry a glow stick or flashlight.
"Anywhere near where cars can expect [them] to be I would hope that people would have some sort of visibility," he said.
Davis recommends parents know where their children are at all times, whether that's being with them or teaching them critical thinking skills.
Children are reminded not to go inside peoples homes or attend homes with the lights off and stay with a parent or group while trick-or-treating.
Davis said residents may also notice an increased police presence.
"[We're] going to make sure that Halloween is safe for everyone and we're going to be all over the city, but we're certainly going to have extra in the downtown and south end as well," he said.
Davis said this is also a great opportunity for police to speak with the community.
"I would encourage the kids to come up and say hello and hopefully there is a small surprise for them," he said.
For adults that may be going to parties for the spooky occasion Davis is reminding them not to drink and drive, and those hosting a party should take extra steps to prevent it.
Davis said it is important to have fun.
"The kids really look forward to this, certainly all the treats and everything else," he said.
