Safe Winter Hunting Urged

We're in the middle of the winter hunting season in Sarnia-Lambton, and area small game and coyote hunters are being urged to stay safe. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says never carry loaded firearms in or on a vehicle, never shoot across a roadway, don't take drugs or alcohol, and watch for nearby hikers, and bird-watchers. Conservation officer Ron Arnold said they may ask to see hunters' licences and inspect firearms. "A small game licence is required for 2019, so double check your outdoors cards as we are into the new year," said Arnold. "We're going to check the firearm to make sure it is plugged if it's a shotgun and we're just going to insure you have a licence to possess that firearm to begin with." Arnold said it's important to get permission from landowners before going onto their property. He urges caution when dealing with coyotes. They can be infected with sarcopic mange which can be transferred to humans and cause a rash. Click here for more information.
