A unique project by a class at St. Patrick's High School has earned an Ontario Heritage Award. Grade 11 students in Robert Walicki's communications technology class created a series of 360 degree video tours of historic buildings across Sarnia-Lambton. They were presented the prestigious honour by Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell during a ceremony at Queen's Park on February 23. Mr. Walicki says the "Eye Was Not There 360" project was a great teaching tool. "They've learned a lot through this about our own local history, never mind talking to local politicians about their goals and hopes and budget and things like that," says Walicki. "We sort of ran it like a small start-up operation and the students really took a lead role on this. I think it was really a unique project." Walicki says it's an incredible feeling to see the students get recognized for their hard work and he thanks the St. Clair Catholic School Board for its help with equipment and materials. He says they beat out other groups including university students and architectural firms. Videos can be found here.
