Chatham-Kent fire crews have responded to another encampment fire in Chatham.
Firefighters arrived to smoke coming from a wooden structure along the rail tracks near Keil Drive and Park Avenue just before 11 a.m. on Friday.
The structure had air conditioning, a solar panel, and a chimney.
What caused the fire is not yet known.
A CN Rail worker at the scene told CK News Today the encampment has been there for a couple of months, but no one was home when fire crews arrived.
The large tented encampment near the Public Utilities Commission building on Grand Avenue in Chatham had a fire in May and the former encampment site along the Thames River at 3rd Street had a tent fire in March of 2025.
CK News Today was told of another encampment beside the Sobeys at Park Avenue and Lacroix Street, but that one is made up of tents.
It's unknown if CN Rail will be taking any action against the encampments, such as charges, removal, or increased rail track patrol and enforcement.
