Suspended driver nabbed by police who found stolen vehicle near Clearville
A 28-year-old man is facing a handful of charges after Chatham-Kent police came across a stolen vehicle on Talbot Trail on the eastern edge of the municipality.
Police said an officer on general patrol spotted the vehicle just after 9 a.m. Thursday as it was heading west near McPherson Road and confirmed that it had been reported stolen from St. Thomas earlier that same morning.
The officer tried to get the vehicle to pull over, but the driver allegedly failed to stop for police at first. When it did eventually stop, a man got out of the vehicle.
A 28-year-old Ontario man was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, dangerous driving, flight from police, mischief, driving while banned, and driving under suspension.
The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing. He is also set to face charges in St. Thomas.

Chatham woman arrested for contacting victim of domestic violence
A 28-year-old Chatham woman has been arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions after she allegedly called and messaged someone she wasn't supposed to.
Police said the woman was arrested for intimate partner violence offences early in the morning on December 6 and was released with a condition that required her to stop contacting the victim.
Officers said they were called to the victim's home shortly after 9 p.m. that same day and learned the woman had been calling and messaging him.
Police contacted the woman over the phone and let her know that she would be charged for breaching her release conditions and she turned herself in at around 9:20 a.m. Thursday.
She was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for breaching bail conditions with visit
A 22-year-old Walpole Island man is in more trouble with the law after he allegedly showed up at his victim's home even though he had been ordered by the court not to go there.
Police said the man was released from court on November 4 with an order to stop contacting the victim and to stay a specific distance away from any place she is known to live, work, or go to school.
Officers said they were called to the victim's home in Wallaceburg shortly after 10 p.m. and learned the man had shown up there and had tried multiple times to speak with her.
Police said the man left before they arrived, but they found him at the victim's house about an hour and a half later when he showed up there again.
The accused was charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order and he was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent woman arrested for shoplifting from Shoppers Drug Mart
A 25-year-old Chatham-Kent woman who was already banned from attending the Shoppers Drug Mart on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg was arrested after she allegedly stole from the same store again.
Police said the woman, who was arrested and charged with theft in connection with an incident at that store on December 6, was arrested again on Thursday for the same crime.
Officers were called to the store at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and found the woman a short distance away.
She was arrested and charged with theft, possession of stolen property, and failing to comply with her release conditions.
The woman was then taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Day drunk arrested for impaired driving on Queen's Line
A 56-year-old Chatham woman is facing an impaired driving charge after she was allegedly caught drinking and driving after a trip from Chatham to Tilbury.
Officers said they got a tip that the woman was travelling on Queen's Line at around 2:40 p.m. Thursday and found her while the vehicle was heading south on Ella Street in Tilbury.
Police said they stopped her just south of Middle Line and believed she was driving while impaired, so they administered a roadside test.
The woman was arrested, taken to police headquarters for further breath tests, and later charged with failing or refusing to comply with a breath demand.
She has since been released with conditions and a future court date.
