Catholic school board donates furniture, books

Multiple loads of furniture and books from the St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB) are on their way to underfunded schools around the world.

"We are thrilled to join forces with Canadian Food for Children Chatham-Kent (CFFC-CK) to ensure these surplus items reach schools in Africa and Haiti, where they are desperately needed," said Lisa Demers, SCCDSB Director of Education.

The school board is sending items, including student chairs, desks, and tables, which aren't needed at SCCDSB schools, but could be put to use elsewhere.

"This effort is a testament to our commitment to advancing social justice and supporting humanitarian causes worldwide," Demers said.

CFFC-CK was formed in 1997 and has been collecting and sending food, clothing, medical and school supplies, as well as other needed items, to a warehouse in Mississauga. From there, items are loaded onto shipping containers and sent to schools in Africa or Central and South America.

The volunteers of CFFC-CK have supported missions in Tanzania, Sierra Leone, El Salvador, and Zambia, among others.
