The Dresden Terry Fox Run has once again topped the list of all runs across Ontario when it comes to money raised per capita.
Organizers made the announcement on their Facebook page on Friday, saying the run in Dresden was also in the top 20 in Canada for total revenue raised.
The Terry Fox run in Dresden raised a total $70,000 in 2022 with significant portion of that coming in after the event was already over. As of September 20, 2022, the group had raised a little over $51,000, but expected more donations to come in.
"We did it again Dresden - #1 per capita for dollars raised and we made it on the top 20 list for overall revenue raised for all of Canada!" read the post. "This town is unstoppable! Thanks again for all the support - we can't wait to get going for 2023 so stay tuned!"
The run in Dresden took place on September 18, 2022 and firefighters, individuals, and several businesses chipped in to help raise funds for cancer research.
"We are speechless over here - can you believe it? We are so proud of our local Terry Foxers and this amazing community for reaching this incredible milestone!" said organizers.
This year's run will be held on September 17, 2023. The run is held every Fall in over 650 communities across Canada.
Terry Fox started his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980 after being diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma and having his leg amputated just above the knee. He was forced to stop on September 1, 1980 when cancer returned in his lungs, but not before running 5,373 kilometres. Terry Fox died June 28, 1981 at the age of 22.
"We continue the annual Terry Fox Run surrounded by messages of love, hope, and inspiration from Canadians everywhere," said the Terry Fox Foundation.
