One person arrested convenience store robbery

Owen Sound Police Service has arrested one suspect following a robbery at a local convenience store.

On October 28 at 9 p.m., a man entered a west side convenience store in Owen Sound and handed the clerk a letter demanding cash. The man then told the clerk it was a robbery and again asked for cash from the register. He then left the store.

The clerk was not harmed during the incident and immediately called Owen Sound police. Officers began an investigation and were unable to locate the suspect.

With help from local businesses and residents, investigators were able to obtain video surveillance which allowed them to identify a suspect.

On October 30, a patrolling Owen Sound police officer saw the suspect walking on 14th Street West.  After a brief foot pursuit, a suspect was caught and arrested.

A 29-year-old resident of Owen Sound was charged with robbery, theft, and failure to comply with a probation order. The accused did make a court appearance on October 31 and was remanded into custody.
