Hit And Run Sends Woman To Hospital

A St. Catharines man has been charged after a woman was seriously injured in a hit and run in London.

The London Police Service says on Saturday around 2:20am, the 25-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle in the area of Florence St. and Highbury Ave.

The woman was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. Police say she suffered several skull fractures, but is now in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.

When police officers arrived at the scene, the driver had already fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was located shortly after police arrived at the scene and the driver was arrested.

Mitchell Sawatsky, 24, of St. Catharines has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, blood alcohol level over the legal limit causing bodily harm, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
