Despite the wet weather, two programs run by FreeHelpCK will get a major boost following a local golf tournament.
The fourth annual Working the Iron in Memory of Henry Heyink Golf Tournament took place on Thursday, raising $72,571.
Geri Ann Hughson of FreeHelpCK says the tournament managed a few rounds before golfers got rained out by major storms rolling through the area.
Working the Iron is put together by Henry Heyink's daughters Karen, Rebecka, Sarah, and Amy, who choose a local charitable organization to donate to in his name. Past recipients of the tournament include the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent and VON Home and Community Care.
This year, FreeHelpCK's Senior Hope Meals and Adopt A Senior programs will get the financial boost.
The Senior Hope Meals program delivers home-cooked meals to over 250 seniors, every Monday and Thursday, as well as on holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve.
The Adopt A Senior Program sees volunteers deliver a festive turkey dinner and gifts to seniors on Christmas Eve. The initiative aims to make sure no one is forgotten during the holiday season.
