A local organization offering free youth programming in Dresden has been presented a donation from this year's Smile Cookie campaign.
On Tuesday, the owner of Dresden's Tim Hortons location presented Dresden Sidestreets Youth Centre with a cheque for $2,782.
"It always feels good to give back, especially during these times when you know that the economy's tight and people are tight with their funds," said Grail. "It's such a great feeling to be able to support those, so it's our give back and thanks for being great community partners with us."
Almost 1,400 cookies were sold at $2 each during the campaign, and 100 per cent of the proceeds were donated to the Dresden organization.
"It means a lot to the organization, we're constantly looking for grants and funding to keep our centre open, and I was just in awe when they emailed me in August and said that we had been chosen," said Lori Ouellette, President of Dresden Sidestreets Youth Centre.
Donations like these keep the organizations doors open, according to Ouellette.
"It costs us about $34,000 a year to stay open, so this will help with everything that goes into keeping the youth centre open," said Ouellette.
Grail, who owns six Chatham-Kent Tim Hortons, made an appearance at the Smile Cookie cheque presentation for Chatham Goodfellow and will be presenting another cheque on December 10 for her two Wallaceburg Tim Hortons locations.
