A unique opportunity is popping up for anyone looking to learn more about the history of downtown Chatham.
Clair Culliford, who lives in the downtown core, will host a free educational walk on April 5.
"I've read books on [Chatham's history]; it's something that interests me," he said.
Culliford plans to share stories about the different buildings and locations the tour will visit. This will include stories about arson, hauntings, infamous criminals, and more.
A big focus will be on the Thames River. Specifically, the floods that used to devastate the downtown core.
"During the worst flood, the water made it up on the stairs on [St. Joseph Parish] on Wellington Street," added Culliford.
This is just one of the stories Culliford plans to share on the walk.
Anyone interested in taking part can meet up at the Chatham Centennial Clock at the intersection of King Street West and 5th Street. The walk gets underway at 2 p.m. and is expected to take around an hour and a half.
While the walk is free, Culliford plans to accept donations which will then be given to a local charity.
Meanwhile, a walk is also planned for people more interested in art than history.
On April 12, Culliford plans to visit all the murals in downtown Chatham.
Anyone interested in joining and learning more about each piece can meet up at the Centennial Clock. This walk will also start at 2 p.m. and take around an hour and a half.
