New shop local event being organized by Chatham businesses

Seven Chatham businesses are joining forces to create what they hope will become an annual shop local initiative.

The first ever “Holiday Shop Hop” event is set to happen from November 14 to 16 with the idea being to encourage people to visit stores outside of the city’s downtown core.

Those who visit all seven participating businesses, Mrs. Bell’s Tea Room and Treasures, Rubies Inc., Encore Shop, Pizazz, KM Greetings, Lavender and Honey, and Porchlight, will be entered in to win different prizes.

However, no one is required to buy anything.

“We’re hoping that if you come you will buy something,” said Wanda Bell, owner of Mrs. Bell’s Tea Room and Treasures.

To be eligible for the prizes, you must get a passport and have each business stamp it to prove you’ve been there.

“The passports, when completed, can be handed in at any of the stores, and the draw will be held the following Monday evening, live on Rubies’ Facebook,” read a press release.

Each business is also providing a prize which includes vouchers, gift baskets, and more. People can currently get a passport by visiting any of the participating businesses.
