Steel-toed boot thrown during argument

A 39-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly threw a steel-toed boot at a woman during an argument in Merlin Thursday night.

Officers said they were called to the scene on Erie Street South shortly after 9:30 p.m. Thursday and learned that there were also other past incidents of assault.

The man was arrested and taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

He is charged with two counts of uttering threats, one count of break and enter, one count of assault causing bodily harm, one count of assault with a weapon, and one count of assault.

Blenheim man uses a ladder to reach an apartment window

A 35-year-old Blenheim man is facing several charges after he allegedly broke into an apartment in Chatham he was banned from attending by using a ladder to get in through the window.

CK police said they were called to the break-in in progress on Dufferin Avenue in Chatham at 1:15 a.m. Friday.

Officers said the man was seen climbing into the window of a residence and they quickly took him into custody.

Police learned that the man had been released from the courts with conditions that banned him from being outside of his residence and also banned him from being at any place where some specific individuals were known to live, work, or attend school.

Officers said the apartment was the residence of one of those individuals who were named in his release conditions.

As a result, the man was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Intoxicated woman was banging on doors in Chatham

A 19-year-old Chatham woman is facing charges after she was allegedly causing a noisy disturbance on Manning Drive in Chatham late Thursday evening.

CK police said they were called in for that shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday for reports of a woman yelling and banging on the doors of multiple homes in the area.

Police said when they found the woman, she was allegedly "highly intoxicated and unable to care for herself."

The woman was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where she was set to be held until she sobered up.

Police round up two alleged court skippers

Chatham-Kent police managed to track down two people on Thursday who were both wanted for skipping scheduled court dates.

Police said they arrested the first person, a 29-year-old Chatham woman, while they were responding to a call about some suspicious activity on Wellington Street in Chatham shortly before 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

Officers said they were able to confirm that the woman was wanted for failing to attend court in connection with a drug investigation from October 2023 and took her into custody.

She was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing and is currently facing more than a dozen charges including multiple drug and weapons-related offences.

In the second case, a 27-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested while police were responding to Victoria Street in Wallaceburg to help paramedics with a man who needed medical attention.

Officers said they were able to confirm the man was wanted on a warrant for skipping a court date for a mischief investigation in Wallaceburg from March of this year.

He is currently facing assault and mischief charges.
