Drunk driver finds out railway tracks are only for trains

A 31-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving charge after he allegedly made a wrong turn onto some railway tracks in Harwich Township.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene off of Middle Line at around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said the vehicle made it about 50 feet down the tracks before it got stuck.

Police believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so they arrested him and took him back to police headquarters for some breath tests.

The vehicle was taken away by a local towing company.

A 31-year-old Chatham man was charged with having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham-Kent woman calls 9-1-1 from inside police headquarters

A 48-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing a pair of charges after she made a series of unnecessary 9-1-1 calls and then caused a disturbance at a local Tim Hortons.

Police said the woman started making the emergency calls early Wednesday morning and even used the phone in the lobby of Chatham-Kent police headquarters to call dispatch.

Officers said the calls were not for emergencies and the woman "behaved aggressively" to the call-takers.

Police said when the woman was told to stop calling, she went across the street to Tim Hortons and made some more phone calls to dispatch from the restaurant while also yelling and screaming.

Staff at the Tim Hortons ended up contacting police to have the woman removed from their property and at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, police arrested her.

The woman was taken to police headquarters and charged with public mischief and causing a disturbance before she was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Wallaceburg woman accused of hitting man in the face

A 37-year-old Wallaceburg woman is charged with assault after she allegedly hit a man in the face during an argument.

Police said they were called in for that in Wallaceburg at around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, adding that the officer who responded saw a visible injury to the man's face.

The woman accused of hitting him was arrested, charged, taken to police headquarters, and then released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham man accused of elbowing landlord during dispute

A 57-year-old Chatham man is facing an assault charge after he allegedly elbowed his landlord in the face while they were arguing.

CK police said they were called to Orchard Heights Drive in Chatham shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for that incident and arrested the man in connection with the investigation.

He was charged with assault and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Noise complaint leads police to wanted man

A noise complaint ended up tipping off police to the whereabouts of a 22-year-old Chatham man who was wanted in a theft investigation that started on November 12.

Police said they found the man on Wellington Street East in Chatham shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday after they found the source of the noise.

He was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Woman accused of shoplifting from Shoppers Drug Mart

A 25-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing a pair of theft-related charges after police allegedly caught her red-handed.

Police said they were called to the Shoppers Drug Mart on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg for a theft investigation shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, adding that surveillance footage showed the woman went into the store, grabbed some items, and then left without paying for them.

Officers said they found her a short distance away with the items still in her possession.

She was arrested, charged with theft and possession of stolen property, and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Tupperville man charged after "driving erratically"

A 76-year-old man from Tupperville is facing an impaired driving charge after police got a tip about an erratic driver in Wallaceburg.

CK police said they were called to Duke Street just after 2 a.m. for that incident and pulled a vehicle over in connection with the case.

The officer believed the man was driving under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests.

The man was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
