Court dates set for Wallaceburg man accused of attempted murder

A man facing three charges, including attempted murder will return to court in Chatham later this month.

Michael Authier was arrested after an incident at a Wallaceburg home on February 26 that left an 18-year-old woman with non-life threatening injuries.

Authier is charged with possession under $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and attempted murder. His lawyer, Frank Retar, told the courtroom on Thursday his client would be pleading guilty for possession at a hearing on August 12 but will stand trial for the other two charges.

A plea and resolution hearing for the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle will sit in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on August 23.

As for the attempted murder charge, a focus hearing will sit on October 28.

As well, four dates have been set aside for a preliminary hearing in the attempted murder case:

  • November 27, 2019 (courtroom 301)
  • December 3, 2019 (courtroom 101)
  • January 23-24, 2020 (courtroom 101)
Authier was released to a surety on $25,000 bail in March, but after breaching a recognizance, he was returned to custody.
