Toronto's newest profressional sports team has a Chatham-Kent connection.
Chatham-based Internet and phone provider TekSavvy will be partnering with the Toronto Wolfpack -- a professional rugby team competing in the Rugby Football League in the United Kingdom.
The Wolfpack will be Canada's first professional rugby team and the world's first transatlantic professional sports team.
As part of its partnership with the team, TekSavvy has committed to being the title sponsor for the Wolfpack's first home game on May 6, 2017, which will be known as the "TekSavvy Home Opener." After every match, the hardest working player on the Wolfpack will also be announced as the "TekSavvy Difference Maker."
"TekSavvy is excited to be the Official Telecom Sponsor for the Toronto Wolfpack," said TekSavvy CEO Mark Gaudrault, in a release. "We're known for 'being different, in a good way.' By starting at the bottom and working their way up through the leagues, the Wolfpack definitely embodies this."
Based in Leeds, England, the Rugby Football League is made up of three professional divisions: League 1, Championship, and Super League.
The Wolfpack will start in League 1 with a chance to advance to the championship division and then the Super League division, which is one of the top professional rugby league club competitions in the world.
