Christmas may be done, but the shopping certainly isn't, and Chatham-Kent police continue to warn residents to lock their cars with valuables inside.
With Boxing Day being one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Constable Renee Cowell says thieves are looking for opportunities to take valuables in plain sight.
"We want to encourage everyone to keep their property safe. Lock your car doors, even when you're in your driveway. Always park in a well-lit area, and remove all valuables and gifts from your vehicle as soon as you get home," says Cowell.
The risk goes beyond packages, boxes or bags. Identity theft is also possibility, not just during the holidays, but all year long.
"Don't give them this opportunity. Please keep anything with your personal information on it at all times," adds Cowell.
Cowell says they investigate thefts from vehicles all year long, but they do notice an increase this time of year.
