NDP leader Marit Stiles is urging the provincial government to take a role in ending the 244 day lockout at Titan Tool and Die.
The employees have been locked out of their jobs since last August when employees refused an offer that, according to the union, included a wage freeze, reduction of company pension contributions, and mandatory overtime.
There have also been attempts to move equipment from the plant to the United States and alleged attempts of bringing in scab labour.
"I think at this point, what we need is the government to intervene and force them to end this lock-out, and don't let anybody tell you that can't happen because the government makes the laws," said Stiles.
She'd like to see legislation introduced that bans scab labourers and protects workers.
"When companies are heading south and taking everything with them and locking out people who work there, who built this company up, good workers, we need laws that will protect them," said Stiles.
Unifor Local 195 President Emile Nabbout indicated the union has accused the company of bad faith bargaining and will go before the Ontario Labour Relations Board next month.
"They haven't told us their intentions. They've locked out those workers unreasonably, and we have told them that we are not accepting any type of concession and if we told them any kind of concession, they need to come up with a different plan," said Nabbout.
Stiles said she'll ask the Ford government to intervene when they return to Queen's Park next week.
