Crime in Windsor begins 2026 heading downward

Windsor police have reported encouraging news on crime as 2026 got underway.

Officials have released the January crime report. In Windsor and Amherstburg, property and personal crime rates continued to decline, extending a trend at the end of 2025.

Property crime saw a double-digit drop in January, falling by 11.3 per cent compared to January 2025.

Officers took 743 property crime reports from Windsor and Amherstburg residents. Offences included in this category include arson, fraud, theft, mischief, break-and-enter, and possession of stolen property.

Out of all those, only fraud saw an increase in reports for January, with a 17 per cent rise to 172 cases.

Personal crime reports also dropped in January. There were 210 incidents reported, reflecting a 2.8 per cent decline from January 2025.

Offences under that classification include homicide, assault, sexual assault, robbery, and forcible confinement.

Assault cases went up by 9.1 per cent compared to last January, the only personal offence to do so.

Taking a look at crime in Windsor's wards, there wasn't much change. Ward 3, which includes downtown, experienced the highest number of property crimes. Ward 3 also held a slight lead over Ward 4, which includes Walkerville, in personal offences.

Ward 1, which covers much of south and west Windsor, had the lowest number of both property and personal crime reports.
