As we reach the end of the baseball season, the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society (CKBHS) and Black Mecca Museum (BMM) are recognizing a historical baseball team.
"The Field of Honour is an opportunity for the community to come out and celebrate the legacy of the 1934 Chatham Coloured All-Stars," said Josh Shreve, Executive Director of the CKBHS and BMM.
They were the first coloured team to win a provincial title for the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA).
According to Shreve, the field of honour has become an annual event that raises money for the organization.
"We invited some of the descendants to come play with us," added Shreve. "We have our three games of the day, and it really is just a community day filled with fun and baseball.
The event will be hosted on Saturday, September 19. There will be a non-competitive baseball game at 11 a.m., a youth game at 12:30 p.m., and the main event, a "Rising Stars" competitive game, will be held at 2 p.m.
It will be hosted at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham, with admission being a donation of any size.
