Just over six months after launching a successful pilot project at Roseville Public School, We Are One Lunch has signed a memorandum of understanding to locate its kitchen and head office at the Fogolar Furlan Club.
"We see it as a critical step toward realizing a fully functional National School Lunch Program," read a release from the group.
Soon after the pilot project, the federal government announced a $1-billion, five-year investment into a National School Food Program.
We Are One was looking for a location aligned with its values and objectives. CEO and Founder Cathy Staal says they found it at the Fogolar Furlan Club.
"We could not have found a more fitting organization. From our very first meeting, it felt like a divine connection," said Staal.
Both organizations share a vision of building economically stable and community-focused initiatives.
"The Fogolar Furlan Club has been a pillar of hospitality in Windsor for over 60 years and this partnership is a natural fit," says Larry Masotti, the club's president. "We've made significant investments in our kitchen and hospitality services, and the opportunity to support the We Are One Lunch Program in delivering fresh, nutritious meals to students across the region is something we are both excited about and well-positioned to achieve."
We Are One also received a donation from the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association which will fund another pilot program this school year.
