Pie auction raises over $117K for John McGivney Children's Centre

The Brad and Joanne Stannard Memorial Pie Auction has set a new record after $117,500 was raised for John McGivney Children's Centre (JMCC) during this week's Harrow Fair.

The sweet event was held on August 29.

The auction has grown exponentially since it began 29 years ago, read a media release. During its first year, the event raised $350.

With this year's substantial amount, a total of $483,072 has been raised overall.

“This generous donation will help us continue our efforts to ensure that every child we serve has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” said JMCC CEO Jennifer Jovanovski in a statement.

The Stannard family started the fundraising initiative in honour of their late son Todd, who was born with spina bifida and passed away at just seven years old in 1975.

Mark Stannard has carried on his parents' legacy along with his wife Lisa and their sons Philip and Owen.

“We are beyond grateful to the Stannard family, all of the bakers, the auctioneers, the community, and every single person who had a hand in making this event such a huge success,” Jovanovski said. “Together, we are making a profound difference in the lives of so many children and families.”

JMCC has provided specialized pediatric rehabilitation and support services to children and youth with physical, neurological, and developmental needs for over 45 years.

The organization supports more than 4,000 children and youth annually.
