A bicycle fundraiser this weekend will remember a champion of Windsor-Essex arts and media.
The Ride to Survive, a key fundraiser for Transition 2 Betterness (T2B), will take place on Saturday with the subtitle The David Scott Hunter Memorial Ride. It is named in memory of Dave Hunter, a well-known Windsor-Essex realtor and publisher who passed away suddenly on June 30 at the age of 48.
Hunter's daughter, Madison, told Windsor's Country morning host Morgan Ryan that her father was always at home on a bicycle.
"On the weeks that led up to The Ride to Survive, he would always send screenshots of how far he rode his bike today, or he would wake me up super-early at 6 a.m., and have me drop him off somewhere. He would just go until he couldn't go any further," said Hunter.
Madison said her father tended to do much of his more productive thinking while riding as well.
"It's more of pushing your limits on top of the physical benefits to everything," she said. "It was a great way for him to clear his mind and maybe get some new ideas for whatever adventure he was planning on going on."
Riders on Saturday will be able to choose from a variety of routes, at 10 kilometres, 25 kilometres, 50 kilometres, 75 kilometres, and 100 kilometres. It begins and ends at Wolfhead Distillery and Restaurant in Amherstburg.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Ride's fundraising webpage reported that over $143,000 has been raised so far.
