The provincial government has approved the tender for the addition to St. Louis Catholic Elementary School in Leamington, which includes an additional $1.4-million more than previously thought.
Last year, the Ministry of Education announced it was giving the green light for several school-related construction projects across Windsor-Essex, including the addition in Leamington.
Once completed, the school will be able to accommodate an additional 147 elementary spaces, three childcare rooms, and 63 childcare spots for local families. When the project was originally approved last spring, the addition was expected to cost around $6.2 million, the province's approved investment announced Friday now sits at $7.6-million.
"The funding for an addition at St. Louis Catholic Elementary School is great news for our community," said Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Trevor Jones. "This investment will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment in the years ahead,"
This recent investment is part of the province's commitment to providing $14 billion to support school construction, repair, and renewal over 10 years. The government has approved nearly 200 school construction projects since 2018, which has led to more than 300 childcare and education building projects.
