Now that lake levels are beginning to recede, the Essex Region Conservation Authority said it is safe to swim at Holiday Beach near Amherstburg again.
"For the past three years, unprecedented lake levels resulted in such severe erosion and falling trees that we were forced to close the beach for safety reasons," said CAO Tim Byrne.
The authority hired contractors to remove the downed trees and other hazards, so it is safe to swim there again.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is also testing the water at the beach again.
"Our washroom and change room facilities are open, the beach is groomed as needed, and we are ready to receive visitors," added Director of Conservation Services Kevin Money.
The beach is unsupervised, so swimmers should proceed with caution.
There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle to help pay for guest services and park maintenance. Visitors can buy an annual pass online if they wish.
Physical distancing and masks are mandatory.
