One of the last people to register for Chatham-Kent's (CK) upcoming election is a small-business owner in Chatham.
Bruce Caldwell is hoping to be one of two Ward 8 councillors, representing people in the southern part of Chatham.
He told CK News Today that he wanted to run as he doesn't believe enough work is being done to help Chatham-Kent grow.
"If you want new people to move here to help offset the taxes that people complain about, you need to put your best foot forward, and you need to grow, because without new ratepayers, property taxes are going to keep going up," he explained.
If elected, Caldwell plans to advocate for a more CK approach, instead of individual communities.
"The fighting amongst ourselves leaves us as a very reactive community. We should be more progressive," he added.
When asked why people should vote for him, Caldwell explained that he plans to be the type of councillor the municipality needs.
"I'm not doing this so I can try to change all the things that I would like changed. I'm trying to represent people; I want to be a voice for people," she said.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
