Windsor police are urging the public to use caution following an incident in the city involving door-to-door solicitors.
The police service says on Friday around 6:45pm, two men knocked at the front door of a home on Norman Rd. and spoke to a female resident. The men told the resident that a new regulation required a yellow sticker to be placed on her furnace. Despite their persistence, the resident did not let them in and reported the incident to police.
One of the solicitors is described as a dark olived skinned male, in his late 20s to early 30s, 6'0" tall, with short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black work coat with yellow stripes, and an ID tag around his neck that was flipped backward. He was also carrying a clipboard.
The other solicitor is described as a light skinned male, younger than the first suspect, with a skinny build and short light brown hair. He was last seen wearing same black coat with yellow stripes and blue jeans.
Police are reminding residents that they are never under any obligation to allow a door-to-door salesperson into their home, and to always ask for and verify their identification. If a solicitor seem suspicious, residents can contact police at 519-258-6111.
