There's a new head in handling emergencies in the region.
The County of Essex has hired Dan Metcalf as the new Emergency Management Coordinator. He officially started the job on October 3.
"It's been a terrific transition," says Metcalf. "I'm looking forward to it."
Metcalf has been a paramedic for 25 years and held a number roles in the area regarding emergency preparedness including committees and working groups.
He's looking to better take advantage of technology to improve local response to emergencies.
"We're constantly looking at new technologies and software platforms to initiate quicker alerts and notifications," says Metcalf.
Another key for Metcalf is fostering stronger relationships in the region.
"We're here to support and collaborate and partner with all the municipalities and that includes the City of Windsor," says Metcalf.
In addition to his career as a paramedic, Metcalf worked as a volunteer in the emergency management department at the County of Essex for the last ten years, also serving as an international liaison for a number of committees and local emergency operation centres including with Michigan partners in Wayne County and Detroit.
