Honouring Officers For Heroic Actions

Seven Windsor police officers are being recognized for their efforts in helping more than eight people escape a burning building on Church St.

Constable Jeff Dalpe and his partner were the first two officers on the scene of the arson, in the 500-block about a month ago, and says they didn't hesitate when hearing there were people inside of the flaming house.

"Afterwards, you look back and you're like, 'wow, I can't believe that.' But at the time, you just react," explains Dalpe.  "This is what we're trained to do.  You react.  You know there are people in danger and you just go in.  Everyone that I work with I know would have done the same thing."

Dalpe says it's nice to get the recognition from Mayor Drew Dilkens at this week's police board meeting, but adds officers are putting their lives on the line every day and any officer could be recognized for the work they do.
