Chatham-Kent throwers excelling this summer

Ridgetown's Jeremy vandenBoorn is coming home from the Canadian Track and Field Championships with two medals.

VandenBoorn won bronze in the U20 men's discus on Thursday with a personal best throw of 48.61m in Langley, B.C.

The 19-year-old also won bronze in the U20's men's shot put on Sunday with a throw of 16.25m.

Chatham's Lee Kucera placed ninth in the men's javelin throw on Sunday with a best effort of 60.42m.

Meanwhile, Emma Negri of Blenheim is getting ready to compete at the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Sherbrooke, QC from August 11-13.

She won gold in the U16 girls hammer at the Legion Provincial Championships earlier this month with a personal best throw of 55.98m, which broke the provincial U16 and U17 records.

The 15-year-old also won gold in shot put and silver in discus at the meet to earn a spot on Team Ontario.

She then broke her own hammer record with a throw of 59.42 at a meet in Toronto on July 22.

Emma will compete at the Athletics Ontario U16 Provincial Championships in London on August 5 and 6, then Legion Nationals the weekend after.
