The Sarnia Sting held off a late push from the Owen Sound Attack to secure a hard-fought 5-4 victory on Wednesday night.
The fifth annual Lambton College Lions Night provided the perfect backdrop for a dramatic finish.
With just 30 seconds remaining on the clock, Chase Gaughan buried his second goal of the night into an empty net, providing the decisive cushion Sarnia needed.
Speaking during a post-game media conference, Gaughan emphasized his readiness to step up into whatever role the team requires.
"I don't want to get too ahead of myself, but like I said being that leader on that team, second line centre that can play in any spot, wherever the team needs me," he said.
Sting Captain Alessandro Di Iorio, Carter Chadwick and Jack Van Volsen also scored for Sarnia while Logan Hawery and Cole Emerton each added two assists.
In net, Ivan Tkach-Tkachenko turned away 28 of 32 shots, as Sarnia improves to 7-10-1-0.
The Sarnia Sting are home to Brantford on Friday, November 6. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m., live on Big Country 103.9 FM.
