Sarnia Fire Rescue responds to two blazes, rescues trapped person

The Sarnia Fire Rescue Service was busy early Thursday, responding to two separate fires, one of which required a rescue.

Crews were called to a single family home on Wiltshire Drive at approximately 9:25 a.m., near the intersection of Murphy Road and Michigan Avenue, and were met with heavy smoke and flames venting from the second storey.

The fire department said four occupants had escaped prior to their arrival, however, one remained unaccounted for.

An interior fire attack was initiated, while firefighters conducted a primary search of the home.

The individual was located sheltered in a safe area and quickly removed from the residence.

The fire department said one occupant sustained significant burns, while another sustained minor injuries.

All occupants were assessed by firefighters and paramedics on scene.

After the blaze was extinguished, the scene was turned over to fire investigators and Sarnia police for further investigation.

The Ontario Fire Marshal will be on scene on Friday to investigate the cause.

Meanwhile, crews were also called to a home on Hemlock Avenue, in the Coronation Park area, just before 4 a.m.

They found a room and its contents on fire. The blaze was quickly brought under control and damage to the rest of the residence was limited.

No injuries were reported and information on a cause was not shared.

The damage estimates of both fires have not been determined.
