Collection starts Saturday for Rotary Used Book Sale

The Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland is collecting gently used books and puzzles at DeGroot's Nurseries this Saturday.

The collection at the London Line site is the kick off for the 2026 Used Book Sale later in the month.

Chair Dale Wilcox said they'll be accepting books and puzzles from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 3.

If you can't make it on Saturday, Wilcox said you can drop off items on Monday to Saturday from January 5 to January 29 and the sale will be held on January 16, 17, 30 and 31.

"Again this year we are hoping this event will bring readers in our community out to find some of the latest titles, along with a good selection of children’s books and non-fiction, all at reasonable prices," Wilcox said.

"It is our intention to encourage reading in all age groups. With the advance of AI (artificial intelligence) it is more important than ever that we retain our ability to be creative, to increase our skills of ethical awareness, critical thinking, and make independent decisions and reading can help retain our abilities, rather than become dependent on technology," she added.

Wilcox said the club is also dedicated to recycling as many books as possible.

"Each year after the public has had time to purchase the best books at our sale, we find new homes for the balance of the books at various recycle stores, several local groups who provide reading materials to their clients, and members of the Little Library group in our county," she said.

The used book sale is one of the club's largest fundraising events. Proceeds from the event are used to support the Rotary club's work, including the community grants program.
