Christmas tree collection initiative returns

The magic of the season may have ended, but Christmas trees could still support Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton.

The non-profit organization has partnered with DeGroot's Nurseries again to collect Christmas trees at the curb in Sarnia, in exchange for a $20 donation.

"We are very fortunate to be able to work with DeGroots on this fundraising initiative," said Communications Manager Trevor Taylor via email. "Every dollar raised goes into our build program fund which will be used to build and complete our current four-plex build in Forest right now."

The tree pick-up program launched in 2024, when the City of Sarnia stopped providing curbside collection.

Taylor said 152 trees were collected.

Tree collection for this season will happen during the first two weeks of January (January 5 to January 9, 2026, and January 12 to January 16, 2026).

Sarnia residents can schedule a pickup through Habitat's website.

They're hoping to have submissions in by the end of the day on January 9, 2026, for scheduling purposes.

Curbside collection of real Christmas trees in Sarnia will take place during the first brush collection week of the year, during the week of May 4, 2026. Christmas trees can also be dropped off for free at Transco Recycling on McGregor Side Road during the month of January.
