The Sarnia Sting are among 31 teams from across the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) taking part in the Real Canadian Superstore's fourth annual jersey design contest.
Those aged 16 and under are invited to try their hands at creating a unique Sting jersey.
The judges' favourite design will be worn during the Sting's February 15 game against the visiting Soo Greyhounds. The winner will also get a behind the scenes tour and be involved in the game day experience.
Sting Vice President of Business Operations Jake Bourrie said the feedback has been extremely positive locally.
"It's an incredible chance for the kids in our community to get creative," said Bourrie. "We get quite a few entries and a lot of creative ones. It's been well received by the local community. It's awesome to see the look on the kids' faces when they see their design come to life."
Bourrie said the jerseys will be auctioned off following the game, with the money benefitting a great cause.
"All proceeds go to the President's Choice Children's Charity Foundation," he said. "It basically helps ensure that no kids go hungry. The charity supports a lot of school and breakfast programs. Obviously, kids being a priority of ours and making sure we support the youth in our community, it aligns well with our charitable objectives."
Eight-year-old Annie Mason won the contest in 2023 with her honey-themed design.
Those interested in making a submission can do so online at www.jerseydesigncontest.chl.ca.
The deadline is October 31 at 11 p.m.
Last year's contest raised over $221,000 across the CHL.
