Take Back the Night to take over downtown Sarnia

It's a symbolic statement of the commitment to stop the tide of gender-based violence.

The annual Take Back the Night walk is on in downtown Sarnia, Thursday, September 19.

The newly rebranded Centre Sarnia-Lambton is hosting the event, and the theme this year is Expressive Arts for Healing: Journey to Wellness.

Marketing and Office Coordinator Hollie Millholland said they will have guest speakers and music ahead of the traditional march.

"We have Maddisyn Fisher, she's an author, she's an actress, she's an amazing soul in this community," said Millholland. "So she is going to be sharing her story and her experience writing her book Coming of Age-ish. We also have Jackie Davies with us and she is going to be kind of explaining how sound healing works and we also have A Mighty Fine Mess joining us, that's a local band."

She said it's also an opportunity to showcase the rebrand for the Sexual Assault Survivors Centre, now known as the Centre Sarnia-Lambton.

"So we're starting from scratch," said Millholland. "We are on Instagram @thecentre.sarnia and then on Facebook you can find us at The Centre Sarnia-Lambton."

Take Back the Night begins at 6 p.m. at the downtown Sarnia Library Theatre.
