Petrolia approves 3 per cent tax increase

Staff members with the Town of Petrolia will look into several capital projects over the coming months after council approved a tax hike of three per cent.

The town approved the 2023 budget earlier this week, Monday night.

Including water and sewer revenues, the budget amounts to $15.3 million.

“I would like to thank Rick Charlebois and his team for an excellent budget and look forward to Petrolia continuing to move forward with some exciting projects and infrastructure improvements,” said Mayor Brad Loosley in a statement.

The town's sewer and water rates both increased by four per cent. One of the projects included under the water capital is the replacement of Petrolia's Water Treatment Plant Intake, which is estimated to cost $16.2 million.

Projects included in the general budget are listed below.

- The reconstruction of Tank Street, and Derby and Holland Streets

- The Community Recreation Project at Petrolia YMCA

- Audio and video recording equipment to be installed for online viewing of Council Meetings

- The installation of a new Town entrance sign South of Petrolia on Oil Heritage Road

- A Petrolia 150 legacy project for our community
