A man who has attended more city council meetings than the mayor himself has been recognized for a "job well done."
Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley named 94-year-old Nick Monsour an honourary city councillor Monday.
Bradley said he wishes there were more citizens as genuinely interested as Nick.
"He has, for decades, come to city and county council meetings," said Bradley. "He is a gentleman, he's very respectful of staff and of council and is always very supportive of whatever direction the city is going and so it's a real nice treat to do this. He was not aware of this recognition and it's a way of saying thank you for being such a faithful servant of the city."
Monsour has been attending meetings for 65 years.
"He always tells people they're doing a good job and makes them feel special and he comes to every meeting and he follows the issues, so it was time to say 'thank you Nick, for a job well done,'" Bradley added.
The retired engineer shared some positive words after.
"This is indeed a real surprise," said Monsour. "This council is working together for the benefit of all of us in our community. That's what we have to do, is have a council where we all work together and bring forward the talent, and bring forward the ideas, and bring forward the way to get things done in our city and we're doing very well and everybody should be very proud of the City of Sarnia."
Monsour came to Sarnia in 1954 when he accepted a job as a mechanical engineer at Polymer Corporation.
