College Research Project Making TV Debut

Research being conducted at Lambton College will be featured on a new documentary series on the National Geographic Channel.

The Atmospheric Vortex Engine (AVE) will be showcased in an episode of "Breakthrough" airing Sunday at 9pm.

The AVE forms a small tornado-like vortex by admitting warm air into a cylinder, causing it to spin as it rises.

Inventor Louie Michaud says there's potential for the AVE to be a viable energy source on its own, or to help existing sources become more efficient.

He's hoping the added exposure from National Geographic will help expand the project, that has the potential to produce vast quantities of carbon-free electricity at low costs.

He says in order to be a viable energy source, the AVE would have to be significantly larger than the one they have on campus.

The episode will air again on Monday at 1pm.
