Smoking Restrictions In Effect For Patio Season

Its has been six months since new smoking restrictions were introduced in Ontario. As of January 1, it's illegal to smoke on bar and restaurant patios, playgrounds and public sports fields. Health Promotion Supervisor for Lambton Donna Schmidtmeyer says although the law has been in effect since the beginning of the year, now is the time more people are frequenting outdoor patios and parks. She says the last few months have been focused on education. The fine for smoking at a playground, sports field or patio is $315 including a victim surcharge. Subsequent charges could be up to $5,000.
