Huron Shores Area Transit has launched a special Agency Day Pass Smart Card for social, health and wellness agencies that assist their clients with the cost of travel to and from appointments.
Huron Shores Transit Coordinator Susan Mills says it was actually one of the agencies that they deal with that suggested they consider a special Agency Day Pass card, and it could be used by any of the agencies that help their clients with travel expenses.
“It could be low income individuals who are working with an agency or people with physical or mental illness that are attending appointments with an agency, employment seekers will often have their travel covered to either intake appointments or interviews for jobs," Mills explained.
Just about any agency that helps to cover the transportation costs for their client would likely be eligible, Mills says.
Mills adds they do have a subsidized fair in place but for an agency that is covering the transportation costs for their clients, that can really add up.
“The card itself is a special smart card set up as an unlimited travel in one day. So this means regardless of where the client is coming from or travelling to it's all covered by that one pass and one price to the agency," said Mills.
Typically that will amount to a discount of about fifty percent for the agency.
Mills also notes the application for the Agency Day Pass would be made by the agency, and they would state how many they would like, and would be billed for them, and then they would distribute them to their clients as required. Mills says at this point the Canadian Mental Health Association and Bluewater Health are two agencies who have ordered a substantial number of the Day Passes for their clients, and they would like to let other agencies know that Agency Day Passes are available.
