CK groups are all smiles after Tim Hortons campaign comes through big

The Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign to help several groups across Chatham-Kent has upped the ante again this year.

The totals raised by the stores in Chatham, Dresden, Wallaceburg, Thamesville, Bothwell, Ridgetown, and Blenheim in 2022 were higher than previous years.

Restaurant owners in Chatham, Dresden, and Wallaceburg raised $49,600 for the Children’s Treatment Centre (CTC) Foundation of Chatham-Kent between September 19 and 25, 2022. Last year, they raised $36,103 for the CTC Foundation.

The stores in Thamesville, Bothwell, Ridgetown, and Blenheim raised $21,235 for the Chatham-Kent Student Nutrition Program. That campaign raised $16,881 in 2020.

Tim Hortons invited over 40 volunteers from the community this year to help bake and decorate 8,000 cookies, according to CTC Foundation President Mike Genge.

"Not all services at the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent are covered by government funding. Programs like Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation Services and Music Therapy are all funded by the CTC Foundation," said Genge.

Genge noted the centre served over 5,000 children in 2022, which is equal to one in every five children in Chatham-Kent.

Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign began in 1996 to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children’s Hospital and has grown to become a major fundraising event at Tim Hortons restaurants.
