It's not an early April Fools' joke, the ferry running between Walpole Island and Algonac, Michigan is set to resume service on April 1, 2022, weather permitting.
The service had been shut down since the end of November 2021 after briefly returning to service around the American Thanksgiving holiday.
The hours of operation aren't set yet but under normal conditions previously, the first ferry from Canada is at 6:50 a.m. and the first ferry from the USA is at 7:00 a.m. The last ferry from Canada is at 9:45 p.m. and the last ferry from the USA is at 10:00 p.m.
"It's with great pleasure to announce that we will be opening on April 1st," read a social media post on Sunday. "We can't wait to see you all again!"
Ferry officials said conditions on the river can be foggy and windy this time of year and the ferry will only run when conditions are safe.
The ferry's management also noted that passengers are responsible to know the current requirements for entering Canada and must ensure they follow all Health Canada and Canada Border Services Agency requirements.
The Walpole Algonac Ferry is an automobile and passenger ferry boat serving the border crossing between Southeastern Michigan and Southwestern Ontario.
