The Rotary Club of Chatham is celebrating a major milestone.
This month marks 100 years since the club was first formed in Chatham.
Current Rotary Club of Chatham President Brett Smith, who has been involved with the organization for 11 years, said everyone is delighted to celebrate a century of service.
Smith added that there are many achievements that club members are proud of.
"The club has done well with many local projects as well with a few national ones during the time since I've been in," he said. "The local projects have been helping out with things like the YMCA, The Chatham Capitol Theatre, and The Children's Treatment Centre [of Chatham-Kent.]"
According to Smith, helping others has been what kept the club and its members motived over the past 100 years.
"The type of people that are in rotary are always looking to do things to help better both our local community and worldwide," he said. "Just people who like to do things for the community and then we do a bit of international projects. Guatemala is where our previous [project was] and where our next project is going to be."
The Rotary Club of Chatham was also recently honoured by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent for its 100-year anniversary with a plaque presentation and flag-raising at the Civic Centre. In attendance was Councillor and Rotarian Karen Kirkwood-Whyte, who was the Chatham club's first female member and eventually first female president.
Although celebrating the accomplishments of the past century is exciting, Smith said the club is already focused on what the next 100 years will be like.
"We're looking to moving through and starting our next 100 years... We want to do a little bit of work around Rotary Park, the one that's on Thames Street and do more things on the go," he said. "We've been increasing the number of scholarships and bursaries we do."
