The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) says strong winds Monday could lead to shoreline damage, erosion and flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline.
The authority updated its flood watch Sunday, saying significant flooding could begin along Erie Shore Drive as early as Sunday evening and last through Tuesday.
Environment Canada has a gale warning in effect for Lake Erie with wind speeds between 50 and 60 km/h expected Monday afternoon and gusts up 90 km/h. Winds are predicted to remain strong overnight and not fall back beneath 25 km/h until late Tuesday.
LTVCA also said there is a risk of significant flooding on Lake St. Clair in Lighthouse Cove and a risk of shoreline damage and erosion on the east side of the lake starting Monday afternoon.
Due to high lake levels, there is a risk that wave action could damage shoreline protection works and cause erosion all along the Lake Erie shoreline, including along the high bluff areas. The authority says the rain in the forecast could also lead to localized flooding or aggravate any shoreline flooding caused by the winds and waves.
