An annual Christmas Benefit Concert to support Chatham Hope Haven has exceeded expectations.
The CK Christian Men’s Choir, Ron Bolohan “The Accordion Man”, soloist Mikayle Lozon, the Dover Centre Ladies Choir, the “One Accord” Men’s Quartet, and organist Nancy Tapley teamed up earlier this month for the festive fundraiser.
The amount raised during the concert was $13,631, which is three times as much as what was raised in 2018. A cheque was officially handed over on December 18.
"It was a lovely, festive event with lots of carol singing and a spirit of peace and friendship among all," read a release from Chatham Hope Haven.
Concert attendees also heard from a man who once needed the service offered at the men's refuge. Ernie Martin showed the crowd that it is possible to get back on one's feet as he now works full-time, owns a permanent residence, and volunteers.
In the meantime, John Wiebenga of the CK Christian Men’s Choir said those interested in joining a choir can call (519) 351-5596 or Barb Sargant at (519) 352-6987.
