Man dies in Rodney house fire

A 54-year-old man was killed in a house fire in West Elgin.

Emergency crews were called to a fully involved structure fire just before 10:55 p.m. on Pioneer Line in Rodney between Furnival Road and Blacks Road on Friday.

West Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the single family home was destroyed and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Service (FIS), Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Fire Marshal.

The road was closed for 18 hours while crews investigated, but reopened just after 6 a.m. on Sunday.
